Today is a special day! No, no--not because America is a year older, (no offense, America), but because we've got a treat for you. It's a completely free download of Jonathan Stark's entire album, Medicine Bow. Plus, we're including the title track from his unreleased EP, Southern June.
You're probably asking yourself, "Who is Jonathan Stark? I know that name. Why did I stay up so late last night?" The name is familiar because he recently became one of our favorite Brite artists. You stayed up late last night to watch fireworks. Probably.
Speaking of fireworks, you'll probably see some once you spend a little time with Medicine Bow. You could play this while you're sitting on your porch drinking an Arnold Palmer one evening, or let it help you pass the time as you play a game of GIANT checkers while waiting for a table at Cracker Barrel. According to Jonathan Stark's Facebook page, he loves Cracker Barrel. This doesn't really suggest much about his music. Or maybe it does.
It's definitely a relaxing variety of folk, but with some extra bells and whistles, (think along the lines of Andrew Belle or Sucre), synths, pretty piano tinklings, and noticeable authenticity behind the lyrics. In fact, you'd probably find this record located on your shelf somewhere between Neil Young's Harvest Moon, early Caedmon's Call, and even earlier Death Cab For Cutie.
