If you're not already familiar with Black Cab Sessions, you're in for a real treat. Self-described as being an approach to "presenting the best bands in the most iconic vehicle in the world," BCS is just that. The small, London-based crew travels around, (or catches bands when they come through London), filming buzz-worthy bands like Beach House, Spoon, and Bon Iver, or well-established greats like Brian Wilson, My Morning Jacket, and Feist. Each band performs one of their songs, in one take, with acoustic instrumentation. Their session is recorded, and later shared on the BCS website.
Last year, BCS embarked on a tour of the US, stopping off in New York, Nashville, New Orleans, Memphis, Philadelphia, and Athens, and recorded a handful of bands playing sessions in the back of the BCS London cab. These performances have been made into a six-part documentary series to display just a handful of American sounds.
The Nashville broadcast date is tonight, and will feature Nashville artists Wanda Jackson, Jack White, Caitlin Rose, Justin Townes Earle, Lambchop, The Ettes, KORT, Those Darlins, PUJOL, and Brite Revolution artists, Tristen, and Heypenny. (Check out their profiles here).
The episode is available on the Channel 4 website, although it is not available to be viewed unless you live in the UK or Ireland. Certainly they will make this available for our viewing pleasure, considering all of the artists they filmed will be unable to watch their respective moments of glory if not. Until then, the trailer will have to suffice.
