Billy Cerveny considers himself a storyteller as much as he does a singer/songwriter. It has always been that way whether he is making records, writing books, articles or standing on a stage. His newest record, Donnelly Carter Payne, is the culmination of this passion and a lifetime of growing as a storyteller and artist.
Donnelly Carter Payne is the story of a Georgia born, Civil War era plantation and slave owner who loses everything to General Sherman and his march to the sea. Caught between the brutality of war, self-interest and grace, Donnelly sets out to find revenge, but ends up facing his own pride as he encounters mercy in the most unlikely places.
Donnelly Carter Payne is about coming to the end of ourselves. It is about how grace is free, but living a life in response to grace costs everything.
